Development research for galactic center archeology ...

Details of research theme

【Title of Research Theme】

Development research for galactic center archeology and habitable exoplanet exploration (small JASMINE)

Purposes of the infrared astrometric observation satellite JASMINE are galactic archeology by astrometric observations around the galactic center and exploration for habitable exoplanets. The mission's success depends on the profound contributions by scientific researchers who use the satellite to develop the satellite system. In particular, since JASMINE is not a general-purpose telescope, it is necessary to specialize in astrometric observation and exoplanet exploration to evaluate and draw out its performance. In particular, it is essential to characterize the detector on the ground. We ask that the applicant study the appropriate one based on your wishes and experience from the following subjects: simulation of data acquired by JASMINE in orbit, identification and implementation of performance evaluation of detectors, examination of the data processing system onboard, calibration process in orbit, and operation plan of the sate. In particular, JASMINE is developing an infrared detector for space application in Japan for the first time. All of these development themes are deeply related to the understanding of detector characteristics. Since the detector technology in Japan is the critical technology for future missions led by Japan. Therefore, we expect the applicant gets the experience that will lead to the creation of next-generation missions by taking a well-balanced bird's-eye view of the entire mission.

Required abilities,qualities, and experience

A basic math and physics background is required. In addition, the ability to compile reports is essential to facilitate collaboration in the project. It is desirable to have one of the following experiences.
A) Experience of observation and data analysis in some regions from visible to infrared wavelength by satellite or ground telescope
B) Experience in developing astronomical observation equipment
C) Experimental physics project experience

The JASMINE project is being promoted with ISAS, NAOJ, and universities in Japan and overseas. In this research, the applicant will proceed with research and development in collaboration with researchers at ISAS. Also, depending on the research theme, the applicant will proceed with a joint investigation with researchers in NAOJ. Essential equipment and experimental equipment for carrying out this research are also in place.
