Research on life prediction of composite material by cumulative damage modeling

Details of research theme

This research aims to develop the prediction method of damage evolution and accumulation of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) before the final fracture by experimental and numerical simulation.

CFRPs are widely used in the structures of rockets and satellites.

Before the final fracture of CFRP, an accumulation of small fractures or damages in the material are developed to show the changes of material properties.

The damage evolution and accumulation in CFRPs were experimentally studied, however, the effective method for the prediction of life and property change of CFRPs have not been established.

Especially valid simulation model for damage prediction are expected for life prediction of CFRPs.

About project related research activities, candidates will ask to work on the material related problems in the structures of rockets or satellites.
