Study on Atmoshperic-Entry, Decent and Landing Technology and Development of Sample Return Capsule

Responsibilities

【Individual Research】

The candidate will select some reseach themes  related to atmospheric-entry, descent and landing technology. The research topics are various from conventional rigid sample return capsule to innovative aerodynamic-entry system. The examples are listed as following; heat shield, aerodynamic heating prediction, aerodynamic instability phenomena, parachuting technology, inflatable atmospheric-entry system and planetary paraglider.

【JAXA Project】

The candidate are required to contribute some projects which need the atmospheric entry system, for example, Mars Moons Exploration(MMX), Comet Astrobiology Exploration SAmple Return(CAESAR) and future planetary probe mission, like SPUR (Scattered nano Probes Unfolded Reconnaissance).

Required Abilities

The candidates should possess the knowledge and ability in aerospace engineering, especially, aerothermodynamics, high-enthalpy gas dynamics, aerodynamics and EDL technology. And they should have a motivation and communication ability to promote a project, ground experiments and flight demonstraion with collaborating other staffs.

Working Environment

Research will be supervised by the academic staffs in aerothermodynamics and aerodynamics field related to atmospheric-entry system.

The applicants can access various facilities for aerodynamic research in ISAS, like shock tube, plasma heater, low speed wind tunnel. Additionally, they will have opportunities to use large facilities (supersonic wind tunnel, shock tunnel, hypersonic wind tunnel and so on) located not only in ISAS, but also other departments and to participant the flight demonstration using large scientific balloon and sounding rocket.
