Details of research theme

*The application closing date has been set.

  January 19th(Thu), 2023  23:59(JST)

The ALOS-3/-4 will succeed the missions of "Daichi" (ALOS) and "Daichi-2" (ALOS-2), and will conduct global observations with high resolution and wide observation swath. It is expected to enhance, improve the accuracy of, and make new use of satellite data for disaster response, extraction and updating of maps and geospatial information, forestry and agriculture, coastal environment and oceanography, snow and ice, and other fields. In order to realize this, it is necessary to make steady progress in calibration and validation to improve the accuracy of satellite data and products. In addition to knowledge of remote sensing, expertise in each application field and technical capabilities for data analysis and algorithm development are also required to engage in this work. Research themes related to the combined use and sophistication of optics and SAR are also welcome. We are looking for candidates who are willing to actively engage in these research themes.

Required abilities, qualities, and experience

The candidate should have
- Experience in satellite remote sensing theory and knowledge, satellite data analysis, programming for algorithm development, machine learning, etc.
- Expertise in the field of applied application fields.

Working Environment

Under the guidance of the ALOS Research Group at the Earth Observation Research Center (EORC) and the research groups of the forest and terrestrial ecosystem, the researcher will engage in research activities. In addition, collaboration with researchers of external research institutes related to the research field is also possible. JAXA will provide a computer environment for analysis and research (Linux and Windows systems), access to a wealth of satellite data accumulated at EORC, support for field surveys for calibration and validation, and a research environment for participating conferences and paper submissions.
