Mars system science: Algorithm/pipeline development of remote sensing data for MMX

Details of research theme

【Individual Research】

MMX will observe Phobos and the Martian atmosphere during the 3-year stay at quasi-satellite orbits of Phobos. A successful candidate will join the remote sensing observation and conduct their study for Mars system science.

【JAXA Project】
He/She will participate in the MMX’s remote sensing observations of Phobos and Mars, starting in 2025. They will also contribute to developing algorithms and pipelines for remote-sensing instruments. He/She will conduct these activities with the international MMX Science Strategy Team members.

【Human resources development unique to ISAS 】
The successful candidate will acquire experience in remote sensing study of rocky bodies of the solar system. He/she will play a crucial role in future planetary missions based on their expertise.

Required abilities, qualities, and experience

Strong background and experience in remote sensing or experimental study of planetary science are necessary. Experience in VIS-NIR spectroscopy or mass spectrometry is favorable. A candidate should have a background of either planetary science, atmospheric science, or space plasma physics.
