Astrophysical research based on AKARI’s large volume infrared observation data

Details of research theme

The infrared astronomical satellite AKARI has executed an all-sky survey and thousands of pointed observations in the mid to far-infrared wavelengths from 2006 to 2010. The researcher is expected to produce a new, large dataset by systematic data processing with the latest data processing technology, and then perform intensive scientific research based on the produced dataset. The research theme will be decided in discussions upon the applicant’s scientific interests, demand from the AKARI team, and available AKARI data. ISAS provides a unique environment to perform such research activity, as experts on AKARI's instruments, operation, and data processing will altogether support the researcher. The researcher will gain extensive skills and expertise on data analysis of space missions.

Required abilities, qualities, and experience

We expect that the candidates have knowledges and experiences in observational astrophysics as well as basic skills on data analysis and programming. We welcome researcher who can lead the activity by himself/herself.
